So Long Sami

At this point in career, he had certainly lost a step. He's no longer able to finish like he used to, and he was always a small guy. However, even fans that were hard on him this past season should be able to recognize what he did for the team in his years here.

Yesterday, Sami Kapanen announced that he's retiring from the NHL and returning to his native Finland to play hockey for the team he owns. He walks away from the NHL after a good career that unfortunately never saw him hoist the Cup.

Let's not forget that he was once a consistent 25 goal scorer. He still had great speed, and there weren't many forwards who had the responsibility to really commit themselves defensively. Players and coaches respected his voice in the locker room, and it isn't as easy to replace a guy like him as some like to think.

The Flyers will save 1.25 million with Kapanen's decision.
